Itinerary

Below is the itinerary currently planned for the trip. All of our trips include fully guided tours, and are all-inclusive.

What does all-inclusive mean? Here is what is included:

  • All meals (with the exception of lunch on your free day)
  • All wine and zivania tastings
  • All cooking demonstrations with chefs
  • All ground transportation
  • All lodging
  • Cruise on the Mediterranean
DAY
EVENTS & DESTINATIONS
Day 1 Arrival

Arrive into Larnaca, unpack, unwind and dinner at the hotel

Day 2 Paphos

We travel to the Western and Southernmost tip of the island

  • Visit with local artists at The Place – meet local icon makers, glass painters, sculptors
  • Hike around Aphrodite’s Rock or Petro Tou Romiou (birthplace of Aphrodite)
  • Visit Aphrodite Delights to learn how Loukoumiou is made (Turkish Delights – or as they call it in Cyprus – “Cyprus Delights”)
Day 3 Troodos (Mountainous region in central Cyprus)

Mount Olympos is the highest peak in Cyprus at 6402 feet above sea level

  • Agios Ioannis Lambadistis Monastery is an UNESCO heritage site and dates back to the 11th century
  • Archangel Church in Pedoulas and Wine press in Lofou (Limassol)
  • Easy, beautiful hike to Caledonian Falls
  • Visit a vineyard that has been with the Cypriot family for centuries in their underground caverns. Taste local vintages and the famed Cypriot Commandaria, one of the oldest wines of the world.
Day 4 Venetian Castles & Cruises along the Med

  • We visit an important 16th c Venetian castle, critical in protecting against Arab and Persian invaders for centuries along the Northern coast
  • Enjoy a day on a private cruise! Swim, snorkel, and sunbathe along the crystal clear waters as the captains prepare you an intimate lunch of mezzes, shish kabobs, and fish. The waters are warm and the drinks are cool, as we explore hidden coves on the beautiful coastline.
  • After the boat tour, we walk through the old Turkish Quarters behind the historical Harbour. We will learn how to make Turkish coffee, and sip under the large trees in the piazza.
  • Free time for shopping in the afternoon.
Day 5 Farmers Market, Bellapais and Cooking with Chef Selim

  • Today we visit Bellapais (Translated as “Beautiful Lands” by the French Lusignans)
  • Visit one of the largest farmers markets on the island
  • Cooking morning with celebrated local chef Selim in beautiful Bellapais Gardens
  • Visit Bellapais Monastery and Village, including the home of Laurence Durrell
  • Enjoy coffee and a chat under the Tree of Idleness
Day 6 Buyukkonuk

Deemed to be a historical Eco-Village by the European Union in 2012, Buyukkonak is located in the Northeast area of the island

  • Demonstration on how carob molasses is made
  • We work with local women to prepare fresh bread and local cheese, made from locally sourced sheep and cow. Visit with farmers, bread makers on this memorable day
Day 7 Free Day

Enjoy your day lounging by the pool in your beachside hotel. Grab food, drinks, swim, and snorkel on your private beach, attended to by staff dedicated to ensuring your time to be relaxing and peaceful. Borrow a book from their expansive library. Tuck yourself away in a secluded section on their expansive land, where flowers overflow, pick some fruit and veggies from the organic garden, or simply snooze by the pool. You’ll want to pamper yourself and relax.

OPTIONAL: Add-On for a Cultural Day in Famagusta / Salamis / Saint Barnabus

  • Eastern most city of the island, Salamis was a famous port city founded in the 1st century AD. Come walk through one of the most historical and important Roman cities of the Eastern Mediterranean. Explore ancient ways of life through the amphitheater, chariot races, gymnasium, sports Colosseum. Saint Paul literally stepped and proselytized in this important, large city.
  • We will then visit the important Greek Orthodox burial sport of Saint Barnabus, and the chapel and monastery that now exists. Peaceful and beautiful.
  • In the evening, come and dance with belly dancers and enjoy a typical Greek taverna, with more food and drinks than you can possibly consume! A favorite spot for locals! This place is an inside secret that will have you eating, laughing, and dancing all night!
  • Optional add-on day: $100 per person
Day 8 Guzelyurt and Lefke (Western cities)

  • Roman mosaics in Christian basilicas
  • Omorphou: St Mamas monastery: icon and archaeological museum
  • Ambelikou: traditional lunch in one of the two eco-villages of North Cyprus
  • Visit a local beekeeper and learn how this traditional skill survives. Tastings of local honey.
  • Visit the Maronite village of Kormakitis and learn how they continue their traditional lives. A cooking class with locals here, based on fresh, seasonal options.
  • Dinner at Emma’s House, the village baker, to include a short cooking course
Travel Day Return flight

  • Breakfast at hotel and then transfers for flight back home
  • We hope you will return to our sunny island!

Please have Euros on hand for incidentals. Credit cards are widely accepted all over the island. Cyprus is the easternmost part of the European Union. It is also a former British Colony. As such, English is widely spoken all over the island.

Claudia Hanna is a James Madison University Instructor of Eat Like a God or Goddess, learning how to replicate healthy, Mediterranean meals. Having grown up in Harrisonburg, Claudia was a management consultant for years before trading power suits for flip-flops and beach sarongs for a simpler, healthier life in Cyprus. Claudia lived in Cyprus for 8 years and has put together this tour as "a few of her favorite things" while on the Island of Aphrodite.
